One thing that is not discussed very much is to have a plan B. Something could go wrong, traffic may be worse than expected, there could be a wreck, etc. Whatever the case, please have a plan B just in case something goes wrong.
I think Steve has a good plan. He has sent his family away, but he is staying. If necessary he has a well protected building to vertically evacuate to - hatchet in tow.
Please consider all the "what ifs" and have more than one plan.
On second thought, I would leave!
