Hattiesburg MS hotel throwing guests out at 11 am tomorrow!

#1 Postby timNms » Sun Aug 28, 2005 11:04 pm

I just heard a news report that made my blood BOIL! A reporter from WDAM TV in Hattiesburg was interviewing the desk clerk at Days Inn in Hattiesburg, MS. I almost came unglued when the lady announced "Guests will only be allowed to stay one night. They must check out by 11 am tomorrow." I am assuming that they had some rooms available for the night that perhaps someone had made reservations for and cancelled at the last minute. I also assume that the rooms are reserved for tomorrow, but who will be driving in hurricane force winds to get to their reserved room? shouldn't they already be there?

11 AM is at about the time when our area, including Hattiesburg, is expected to begin experiencing sustained winds of up to 100 mph with gusts up to 120mph.
How can they get away with such a thing to people who are trying to get out of harm's way?

Simply refuse to leave. If they are experiencing the hurricane the cops won't come or answer 911 calls.

Tim, Be safe! Stay if you need to.

By the way, go and update your contact stuff on the check-in thread (stickied at the top) . I think you are the TIM they are concerned about (from south of NO?)

My parents had problems with a Hotel in Baton Rouge. They just wired 1000dollars out her account. She is P**t!!

They said they made new hurricane rules but after we made the reservations. She is going to sew them.

Just to clarify a bit, I live about 20 miles north of Hattiesburg. I'm in a well built home and will ride it out here with my wife and kids, along with our dog and cat.

I just wanted to vent a little about that report. I wish I knew who to call and report them to.

Here in Florida there is a hotline to the Attorney General's people to report price gouging.

If you have a chance, notify your charge card company (if using charge card) and if not, keep receipts and report them.
