NO Mayor Press Conference

#1 Postby Mello1 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 2:36 pm

This is my first thread starter, so I hope this is right:

Mayor of NO just had a news conference. 20 buildings have collapsed, one an apartment bldg. Bodies floating in various areas. 200 people on roofs awaiting rescue; 20 NO police officers. Cannot get to them. 50" water main has burst, location unknown. Boil order in effect. 1 block breech in levy. Must rescue in boats. Cannot start rescues for another hour. One hospital in trouble. From WWLTV. They are back on line with an audio feed thru CBS.

Mayor told people of NO who left that they cannot come back for at least 2 days or more.

9th Ward, Jackson Barracks major flooding. Hyatt Hotel all windows blown out on one side. Was where the mayor and other officials are staying.

Jefferson parish under boil order. Lost all water pressure there.

700,000 in NO without power; worst outage ever.

NO east, bywater? worst hit where floating bodies spotted.

20 NO police officers were at their homes waiting to relive those on duty already.....

My guess would be that CNN is not talking about it because they either don't wanna send the country into a panic.. Or they wanna fabricate the news and make it sound like this was not much more than a severe thunderstorm.. I haven't got a clue

I think this is only the beginning... Still no reports from the MS Gulf Coast where conditions were much worse.

I am not finding this anywhere in the media... until we can find a media outlet reporting this press conference, I'd consider this information suspect. Don't spread it around until it's verified.

It wasn't actually the mayor who issued to order to prevent people from returning, it was the governor, and I think it was a very wise move. New Orleans isn't close to safe right now, with large sections flooded, buildings in danger of collapse, dangerous debris everywhere, no sanitation, and no mechanisms in place yet to preserve life and minimal function of society.

NOLA is still a very serious danger zone, and it won't be re-opened until the situation is properly stabilized.

I have seen some of this info on WWL's website and also heard some of it on their live stream.

Oh, and there was this poster on here (don't remember his user name) saying oh, New Orleans is immune to major hurricanes. They never come here. I bet he is rethinking that now! It is just awful. We won't know about the casualties until much later. :cry: :cry:

Sounds confirmed to me; but still no reports from mainstream media.

I mean, we all knew sadly, that people were going to die.

I wonder how truthful they will be about the death count? So sad, considering these people didn't have to die.

Gov Blanco is giving a press conference right now.

--LA NG, State Police have been given the order to start search and rescue missions;

--200 boats available and ready as soon as weather permits;

--pray for everyone involved. hoping for the best, but fearing a death toll here

--DOT personnel ordered to be on stand by to clear the roads;

--LA STATE POLICE WILL BLOCK RE-ENTRY INTO THE AREA EXCEPT FOR EMT WORKERS;

--High wind and high waters makes it dangerous to return home or to venture out.

--Power out, roads flooded, no food or water; begging for PATIENCE.

I just gave you the website. I heard the reporters say it with my own ears. Sry, but it's true, okay?
