Sensitivity and compassion

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Mon Aug 29, 2005 6:58 pm

This has been an extremely devastating event for many of our Storm2K family and friends. We continue to gain new members who come here in hopes of using our resources (most notably, you -- the rest of the Storm2K family) to help them find out about their homes and their loved ones. Please remember to use compassion and sensitivity when posting or commenting on reports of damages and casualties in the areas struck by Hurricane Katrina. It can mean a big difference in the lives of others. We are here to support everyone.

such a perfect post.
well said and so important.
I have been watching coverage of katrina all day and my heart aches for the people in her way.
we must always put first the concerns of all people caught in the destruction.
I think anyone who has lived through a cane understands. sometimes those who have not experienced a cane may be a little insensitive .
your post is a good reminder to think before posting.

Yesterday was surreal and today we feel shock and sadness. Yes we are family and we truely feel the pain of our friends. Many of us go way back to the Lowes Storm 9x era. I for one have a deep feeling of helplessness to see such damage and know many families have nothing. This especially hits home having a 13 month wonderful little girl. All I could think about is what if this would have been the Houston-Galveston areas. Its truely a heartbreaking event that has occurred. Sure we all enjoy the thrill of tracking storms and watching them develop but we never ever wish for harm to come to anyone. This is a tremendous historic event we are all experiencing. I only hope all you would support us if a disaster were to come our way.

Take everyone and God Bless. Do not ever give hope of a brighter day. It will come.

Well said Duckie.

After what we will witness over the next few days, especially when we get word from Pass Christian and Bay St.Louis, I truly hope the rah/rah/rahs and cheering for the cat4 and cat5 hurricanes cease. It was becoming sickening from some and now over the next few days you will see the results.

I agree, and feel free to delete that topic I wrote this morning about it not being the "big one". as others have said, they just weren't showing the devastationg which has been gradually increasing throughout the day.

my prayers go out to them.

Not gonna go back and re-read the whole thread again, but I think you did a fair enough job of clarifying (in a later post within the thread) what you meant when you posted it. The way I understand it, it was your perception of the storm, at the time, in relation to what was being discussed in the media and here prior to landfall. Clearly, we're all learning more details about what has happened as time goes by.

I am shocked at the events today... and offered my house and possible transportation to LAwxrgal, the other night...

She called and I warned her of the danger as well of coming here to Navarre. She seemed terrified on the phone as she spoke with my wife as well. They did manage to get out of the city but if she posts here again we are waiting on news.

My understanding was that they made it to Jackson, Miss.

I guess they lived on the west side of NOLA so I hope everything is O.K.

Thoughts and prayers from my family go out to these people...

Thanks for that update, Chris! :) I tried to call again, but I'm still getting an "all circuits are busy" message.

Bumping this back up because some members appear to need a reminder.

Please, let's not get into debates about rebuilding. I have been PM'd by members who have been directly affected by Katrina and wish to avoid reading threads like that. These are their homes and communities that you're saying should not be rebuilt.

See where I live? Okay, 'nuff said.
