Post from beginning of season, predictions -

This may not be the right time, if not, feel free to delete, but I saw a post that got me thinking....There was a post put up at the beginning of the season where we gave our predictions for the storm(s) that we thought sounded like trouble. I was wondering if anyone could locate that post, as I can't get the search function to work.

I was actually thinking about that the other day when they were reviewing the season so far, up to Katrina, on the news. It's gonna take some digging but we'll find it.

Many predicted the name "Katrina" to become a quite dangerous storm.

That's what I thought I was remembering, which is why I'd like to see the post because I don't remember specifically.

In early July I said Katrina would be a C5 and a storm that will be talked about for the next 50 years.

Most people voted Miami, but New Orleans was a close second.

Not many people said Katrina. Quite a few said Dennis, and a few said Emily. Of course, a lot of people also said Bret, Jose, and/or Gert.

this is kind of off topic, but speaking of predictions i think this whole board had a premonition about the infamous remenants of Ex TD10. Anybody remember that thread it was almost 100 pages long for a pathetic looking (although it was a fighter) little wave/exTD. We tracked that thing right across the atlantic when there really wasn't anything to track, i recall the NHC at one point even said it was losing its characteristics of even being a wave . . . and then Katrina was born and the rest, as they say, is history.

I voted New Orleans. Betsy missed, but was pretty darn close. Camille went east. Georges and Ivan both turned at the last minute. The luck is about to run out on the Big Easy.

Everyone seems to keep thinking New Orleans is hurricane proof. Just because the storms usually miss them. Lots of close calls. New Orleans used to get hit a lot in the early days. Just been very lucky. 40 years will be the anniversary of Betsy on Sept 11th. Would it be weird if a cane hit New Orleans on the 40th anniversary of Betsy? I better shut up. Don't want to jinx anybody. LOL. I have this feeling that Louisiana especially the Houma-New Orleans area will get one soon enough.

I think in the first few pages of one of the TD10 threads, when everyone was moaning about how pathetic a storm it was, I said that the worst case scenario would probably occur if it stayed a Tropical wave, slipped under the ridge, before reforming in the bahamas and heading into the gulf. It's ironic, that the shear which kept TD10 from forming is ultimately responsible for all this damage and destruction. If it hadn't been present, TD 10 would have become Jose, and zoomed out to sea northwards breaking through the weak ridge. It just goes to show how interlinked the weather systems are in Atlantic during hurricane season. Shear in one area preventing a storm from forming out in the Atlantic where it could likely fish, may actually cause more problems down the line as the storms will be closer to populated areas when they get their act together..

Cycloneye had transferred it over to the Contest forum, so that it would be easier to look for it when the season ends.

It appears that the majority of us underestimated the number of named storms, although ironically, the number of hurricanes might have been overestimated by some.

Thanks hyper, but the one I had wanted originally was the one discussing the name(s) we thought would be the big ones. The numbers are interesting to look at during this time of the season though.
