Question for METS concerning Gulf High and Troughs

Please do not take this map with any seriousness. I'm only asking a question.

Looking at WV, I see something in Colorado digging down to the ESE. In the loop, it looks like the Gulf High is retreating to the west. What ever it is in Colorado, can it actually get "sucked" southward on the eastern perimeter of the high? If so, what impact would this have on Rita. Is this a "weakness", or would it be considered a trough?
