Met Leslie Hudson on Channel 6 in New Orleans has said New Orleans is definately not in the clear. She said the track has gradually shifted north during the past 2 days. She also showed some of the models and said they will definately shift again...not saying which direction.
She pointed out that Katrina's course changed greatly with 2 days remaining in her track, and here we are 5 - 6 days out on Rita. She did not say New Orleans will get a hit, but she also did not say "we have nothing to worry about".
I made this post b/c it seems like every other met in NOLA has been saying we're in the clear.
Finally WDSU Channel 6 in New Orleans is NOT downplaying.

They are probably in denial. It seems the tv mets around here wait until the last minute to start getting everyone really nervous about storms. It was the same with Katrina. They all said east of here and would not be that bad. Now the same situation is here again. I saw last night the Baton Rouge met said would pass Louisiana to the south and not to worry either, but would keep an eye on it. I have a feeling this on is coming also and it will be very bad.

WDSU just had Max Mayfield on live. He showed the Gulf High retreating to the west which will allow a trough to dig down south and pull Rita to the north. He did say that over time, the models could go further north and east and the track could shift east. No matter where it hits, however, by the time Rita is in the central gulf, she will be so large in size that La. will feel "some" affects.

The Saturday before katrina, the female met on ch 8 (with Bob) said "this is nothing to get excited about". I'm not kidding, I had almost fell out of my chair and spit out my rice krispies.
