Affects of RITA in DELRAY BEACH

#1 Postby AnthonyC » Tue Sep 20, 2005 7:36 pm

From my Aunt, "When will this hurricane season end?!" LOL!

I just talked with my aunt who lives in DelRay Beach and they had a light/moderate impact from hurricane Rita.

1) There were alot of outer bands that brought sporadic heavy rains and gusty winds.

2) She estimated a top wind gust near 45 mph...in an outer rainband. Power was out for only 45 minutes but local school districts were closed for the day.

3) A few branches/small trees are down but there wasn't too much of that because previous hurricanes already did the tree damage.

4) No...I repeat no...structural damage whatsoever.

OK, Anthony, just like I did after Katrina, I'm going to have to correct your Aunt.

The schools were open today. School District is Palm Beach County and they were definitely open.

There were no tree branches down, there was no hurricane nor tropical storm force winds here. I would estimate that they worst "band" to come through had a wind gust of maybe 35 mph tops and that lasted for a couple of minutes. There were only maybe 3 or 4 bands total, spread out over the entrie day. They rest of the day was overcast, but there was little rain.

It was somewhat breezy, but really it just kept it from being hot.

I can't speak to whether her power was out. Mine never even flickered. And to top it all off, I was able to watch TV all day, with no interruption (we have DISH TV and it goes out during thunderstorms because the dish is a little loose).

Once again, either your aunt is exaggerating or you are.

The only thing that happened here in Delray today was that it was a little windy. Schools did not close early, either.

Anthony:
Are you posting just to get a reaction or is your Aunt about a zillion years old and living on another planet?

Sorry to be so harsh and actually kidding about your Aunt who is probably a lovely lady.... :P

Seriously, your report from Katrina was SO way off track as is this one.
If you are not purposely posting to get a reaction; then you need to check out the "real" story before posting again about conditions in Delray.

Of course, you might want to go to the Winter Weather Board in January to post the blizzard that your Aunt will most certainly report in Delray!!!!
