#1 Postby f5 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 12:58 pm

what are the chance that another storm may come along a beat Katrina's record the only way i can see that happening is to have a 200mph Hurricane with gust to 225 the size of Katrina

its hard but possible. First you need another very intense and large cat-5 hurricane, moving directly onshore in a similar topographic region. But add in an extra day or two of travel in a straight line directly onshore, and dont weaken it as much before landfall. =large fetch and no weakening. You could probably get another 5 feet of surge that way. Throw in a bay in the right eyewall. Remember the record in the pacific is like 40 feet.

a cat 3 in NYC will shatter Katrina's record surge. Even a 2 will rival it

The Right Angle between New Jersey and Long Island, along with the Manhattan and East Rivers, will funnel that surge right through Manhattan.

Given the right storm, a major hurricane pummeling through NYC will cause a Great Depression 2, many of the bridges and landmarks (including the Statue of Liberty and Coney Island), will be destroyed.

I don't want to go too in depth here, but a thread on this exact scenario is here: http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=52570&start=0 Go to page six, that's where I have typed a long story about the true WORST CASE scenario. If you get easily scared I suggest you don't read it.

Back on topic here--

How is the bathymetry off the coast of Georgia and S. Carolina? Cause there is a much better chance of a hurricane approaching these states perpencularly (is that a word?) for days then along the GOM, and the Gulf Stream would energize canes going there, not to mention they have much more water (Atlantic rather than GOM) to work with.

i heard that would be a catchers net for strom surge the same way a catchers net works to catch a baseball.also it would be the biggest catastrophie on the planet but i think bin laden will do more harm to nyc than a hurricane will
