Look at the 18Z GFS. Shows landfall in Sarasota County.

Anywhere in that cone should be rushing their preparations to completion.

Listen to your local management officials for official evacuation orders.

The storm's going to hit south of Fort Myers. Sarasota will be fine, if a bit windblown. I think I'd be nervous stayign in Port Charlotte, though.

Noah just knowing how low that area is I would have your Mom come up. Better to have everyone in speaking distance. I think for Christmas this year everyone needs to ask for a satellite phone! I'm here in Sarasota off of Tuttle right behind Ed Smith Stadium. I'm probably going to put up plywood tomorrow morning. The latest models runs especially the GFS has me a little more worried. This storm might not be something to play with.

Don't just look at the GFS. Also remember that the GFS has not been very reliable in recent history according to Derek Ortt.

That said we should definitely be prepared because we are in the cone and anything could happen. I am feeling pretty good about the NHC track forecasts. They've done an excellent job this year so far and still have the storm making landfall well south of us. We'll see what the next 12 or so hours bring, which will be crucial.

Sitting tight here. Not doing anything beyond making more ice. Supplies are plenty and if the storm moves this way, I'll cover my southern and eastern facing windows. This is looking more and more like a Ft. Myers to Bonita Springs event. Either way, plywood is pretty much useless if a tornado rips your roof off. You need to:

a. Bug out.

b. Make sure you have a reinforced safe room.

Those are really the best choices when confronted with the potential tornadic outbreak we could/will see tommorrow night and Monday.

I am in Port Charlotte Technically but, Really east Englewood. 26°57'09.71 N 82°14'52.67" W in Gulf Cove. We are dangling down on the cape haze pennisula about 1 mile from the Myakka river maybe 5 from the mouth of Charlotte Harbor.

We are sticking it out, just finished all of our prep. We didn't board up..


My wife had reservations for a Hotel room in Orlando from yesterday until Monday. We decided to stay here and cancelled the reservation. After Crapping our pants when Charley Came ashore last year. After seeing the forcasts yesterday and today about it tracking to our south and only being a CAT 1 or 2, We figured it shoudn't be that bad...

With Now I don't know, the NHC track is to our south but, the models have it going over the top of us or maybe to our south, and the talk is of a 3 maybe higher.


Crossing our fingers we made the right? decision.

He slid by just to our south by 5 or 6 miles, We lived in Rotonda Then about two miles further south. Pool Cage took a beating and a palm tree got pushed overf.
I rode it out with my family and about 4 other families in an office building over on 776.

We adults all crapped our pants when we heard he was making a turn and was headed for Englewood. The kids never noticed.

two days later i had volunteeered to cook for a group serving meals in PC, it didn't take me long to realize how lucky we had gotten, another 5 minutes in the gulf before turning and it could have been us.

I fled to Miami to stay with a friend and I'll never forget the drive home and what I saw off I-75 in Charlotte Harbor. It really looked like a tornado swath. I could not believe those big light poles snapped in half, the huge heavy road signs that looked like crumpled up aluminum foil, and big giant pine trees cut off like they had been the victims of a giant weed whacker. I was shocked at how buildings that looked extremely sturdy were in total ruins.

I rented my guest house to an elderly couple who lost their mobile home in Charley. They had just moved to FL several months before from Michigan. They rode it out in the clubhouse with other residents and were glad to get out alive. What's sad is that a few weeks after their new, supposedly sturdier mobile home was built and they moved in, the husband died of a heart attack. Very sad. I am sure the stress of it all affected him greatly and possibly caused him to die prematurely.
