Yet another record could be broken…

#1 Postby whereverwx » Sun Oct 23, 2005 7:38 pm

What’s the record for the most major hurricanes to make landfall in the United States in a year? If Wilma makes landfall as a category 3, she will be our 4th.

This is very interesting information! I would like to thank senorpepr for answering my question. You’re an awesome met!

This is what he stated:

“The most major hurricanes to strike the United States in a given year is three. That was set in 1909, 1933, 1954, 1955, 2004, and 2005. However... if Wilma strikes as a major... 2005 will hold the record alone with four.”

So there you have it… yet another record about to be broken this season.

Sure looks like it, I've been following the Wilma coverage on CNN, and she's getting stronger. Last I heard she had sustained winds of 120 MPH (Cat 3).

Also... the number of major hurricanes in the gulf record was broken. Again and again and again. We're up to 5 majors in the Gulf now.

I just don't see this unprecedented year being followed up with another
as active. Maybe it will slow down to, oh, say 2004's numbers.

After this season 2004 does look nice, at least in terms of activity, but not in terms of hurricanes that came to visit me in Orlando.
