Key West, Florida flooding... Live Webcam
http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/
I remember watching this webcam for another hurricane and when Chad Myers said Duval Street just now on CNN... I decided to check it out.
Not good news for those in Key West, Florida.

Uhhh, I just watched a car drive through, as SUV too, and the water was up to the top of the wheels. More than a couple of inches. More like a couple of feet...
I just watched two cars and two SUV's go through and it was at the bottom of the tires.

Conchs having a change of mind regarding evacuating:
Source: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9804798/
(Sloppy Joe's on Duval is now waterfront for a bit)
“A bunch of us that are the old-time Key Westers are kind of waking up this morning, going ‘Well, maybe I should have paid a little more attention,”’ restaurant owner Amy Culver-Aversa said.
...
Ricky Cartwright said he probably would have left if he had known how bad the storm would be. Water up to his bed forced him to flee his home in the middle of the night and destroyed his possessions.
...
“Within 45 minutes, it went from 6 inches to 4 or 5 feet deep,” said Chris Elwell, whose new Porsche Boxster was submerged to its roof.

From that MSN link:
Ricky Cartwright said he probably would have left if he had known how bad the storm would be. Water up to his bed forced him to flee his home in the middle of the night and destroyed his possessions.
“All my clothes, all my shoes, everything,” he said.
Key West streets were flooded four blocks inland from the shore.
“Within 45 minutes, it went from 6 inches to 4 or 5 feet deep,” said Chris Elwell, whose new Porsche Boxster was submerged to its roof.
“It was like a train coming on both sides of me,” said Key West bartender Noah Ackerman, who tried to ride out the storm in a house elevated on stilts but gave up and left to seek better shelter.
“All the streets are rivers,” said Ackerman, who was given a ride to a shelter by passing police. “You can see water just rushing through.”
This INFURIATES me - YOU WERE UNDER A HURRICANE WARNING,
WHAT DID YOU EXPECT, A SPRING SHOWER? If you can afford a Porsche
Boxster, you can afford to fill it up and drive to Miami and safety.
If I knew it would be bad, I would have left? SLAP! IT'S A FREAKIN' HURRICANE! AT ONE POINT, THE MOST INTENSE EVER IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN!@#!
ARRRRGHHHH!

I have been a lurker here for years, and very rarely do I post. But I must say this. To all if I offend you I am sorry and to the mods, I apologize in advance.
Ok here goes to the person who asked where FEMA was....well since Key West is an island and emergency personel do not move in until the storm passes it would make sense that they have not been able to get there as of yet. Secondly, why ask that question?? Why not say, why did those told to evacuate NOT do what they were told????
I am so tired of everyone blaming the government, these people made a decision, albiet a bad one, to stay so unfortunately they'll have to wait for oustide help and utilize any local help availiable at this moment.
ok...i'm off my soapbox now....once again I truly didn't mean to offend just had to get that off my chest.[/quote]
