Cheezy, have you ever experienced sustained 40mph winds?

u no what sux...ive never been through more than a minor depression because I live in NTX and all the storms weaken to much for me to get anything good out of them...I almost got it out of Rite but it turned north...Im kinda hoping that we get a TX landfall that will bring at least 40mph sustained winds

That is fine with me as long as it jumps over SE TX to get to you!!! For that to happen we would probably have a CAT4 or better down here. NO THANK YOU!!!!

I have in severe thunderstorms...In fact Ive seen 65+mph winds....the problem is...they never last very long and theyre gone before u get a good glimpse of what is happening in front of you...to me, its really exciting to get strong storms like that because, even in NTX around Dallas where I live, 60-65+ winds arent too frequent because those huge squalls die out just north of my area...some times its actually a good thing...a few years ago I heard reports from wichita falls about a squall line producing 100-120 mph winds...now that would be terrifying to me!!!

if there are more gulf coast landfalls in 2006 most likely folks are going to be fed up and move out vacating the gulf coast beacuse they don't want to rebuild then a storm comes and knocks down your progress like legos

Yea...I know those supercells in your area can get pretty darn exciting! Whenever I'm in your area, I'm constantly looking to the horizon to find that perfect anvil. I have not yet been able to experience a "true" supercell though...you know, the ones that drop softballs!

Every now and then we'll get 40 - 70mph winds in squall lines that move through, but like you said, it never lasts that long. Nothing compares to hours of 100mph winds though. That's truly the loudest thing I've ever heard.

Originally Rita was expected to be a strong TS up in the Dallas area. Now that would have been quite an experience for you that far inland. T-storms and tropical systems are a whole different ball game...they are both intense, and they can both be scary, but the tropical systems (the bad ones) can be truly life changing and memorable...plus you usually get severe squall lines ahead of the storm too, so you are really seeing a double whammy...first the severe squalls; second the prolonged winds and rain.

Originally Rita was expected to be a strong TS up in the Dallas area. Now that would have been quite an experience for you that far inland. ya I no what u mean, EWG...also you could have a big threat of tornadoes this far inland...thats really scary...luckily its nothing compared too what you see in supercells...I remember in 2000 when I was about 9 or 10...my dad called me down from my room to go outside in front...and he shows me the most incredable thing i can remember... a huge half mile wide funnel cloud about 200 ft from the ground...it was very dark where the tornado was...but the sunlight made it look orangie...it was truly increadable
