Huricane Hunter On Display

#1 Postby Lograph » Mon Apr 03, 2006 6:45 am

Orlando Executive airport will have a P-3 Orion hurricane hunter aircraft on display on May 9th. The aircraft will be open to the public and personnel will be available to answer questions. I caught the tail end, of the newsclip, so I don't have all the details, but I'm sure the airport or the Orlando chamber of commerce should have details. If you haven't seen one, its worth a look.....especially if you can get someone's attention for a half hour or so Rolling Eyes Most of the operators are more than happy to talk to enthusiasts. I saw one at the Vero air show, and the 45th weather squadron had a static display at the patrick air show. Cool stuff Wink

Just to help maintain some clarification on the various "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft, here's a quick overview:

P3 (background) and Gulfstream IV-SP (foreground) - Flown by NOAA, based at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL

C-130J/H - Flown by the Air Force Reserve, based at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS

As a side note to this post on the P3, here's some interesting reading on the Hurricane Hunters out of KAFB, including their interaction with and aftermath of Katrina.
