Great page!

The only thing that comes to mind to add to it, is maybe a line or two about how 1985 was a season of unusual hurricanes, with Elena being Exhibit A. That season also featured Kate, which was unusual for being a very late (mid-November) strong hurricane in the Gulf; Gloria, which was a rare Long Island/New England hurricane; and Juan, which did a loop-the-loop action right off the coast of Louisiana around the time of landfall.

Nice touch with the scans of the St. Pete Times articles. That was Labor Day Weekend 1985, and a friend and I drove back from law school in Gainesville that Friday to Clearwater to spend the weekend with the family. I was following Elena closely, and when we left early that afternoon it was headed straight for the Panhandle/MS/AL. About halfway down I-75, we ran into a horrible storm and I joked that maybe Elena was turning this way. By the time I got home around 5PM, that's exactly what my folks told me and I couldn't believe it.

Somewhere I have a 6-hr VHS tape filled with Elena coverage from the local Tampa Bay stations and The Weather Channel. I need to dig it out.

that was really cool. I was in panama city beach, 19 years old, and it was my first year in fl and I remember having to evacuate twice. We didn't really get much. We got more from Kate in November. Maybe you can document that also. Robbielyn Ps. Just curious what made you do this on Elena?

I know just about enough to sound like I know what I'm talking about sometimes. But for your safety please follow the nhc for truly professional forecasting. :D

Long time lurker...never posted but thought it was interensting to see the photos of the area affected by Elena. I moved to Palm Harbor 1 month after the storm.

What really caught my eye was one of the Newspaper Headline Photos about Korman's Landing. The Korman's are my neighbors good friends and I'm sure he helped in the clean up.

Thank for sharing the site!

I was fortunate to ride the Elena out in Ocean Springs. It was a phenomenal experience to be in the NE eyewall. I could see blue sky as it passed to the SW of us, but not enough to experience the calm. I wish I had video to capture the wind. Unfortunately my friend's house did not fare well after Katrina

I was just a kid when Hurricane Elena hit MS Gulf Coast. So I don't remember much about it. I found one error. Mississippi's abbreviation is MS not MI (in the third paragraph) other than that, good page.
