The revelation from Dr Phil about Ioke being the cause of the start of el nino caught me by surprise.Although I knew after seeing Ioke form in the CPAC something was going on in the Pacific,I didn't see that system as the start of el nino.

Certain things were around well before Ioke and I am surprised by his comment. I never heard the show (I can never get it. Must be a software issue on my end.) . Was he basically referring to it causing a strong MJO burst or something?
The EL Nino (Sorry PK) actually started to develop in March when there was a sudden subsurface change.
