#1 Postby Stormcenter » Sat Oct 07, 2006 5:45 pm

At least the NWS out N.O., LA thinks its possible.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA
320 PM CDT SAT OCT 7 2006

.DISCUSSION...

ASSOCIATED WITH THE COLD HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING IN...STRONG
WINDS WILL ALSO DEVELOP OVER THE COASTAL WATERS THURSDAY
NIGHT...WITH NEAR GALE CONDITIONS POSSIBLE AS THE HIGH WINDS IN
THE MID-LEVELS ARE MIXED DOWN TO THE SURFACE.

OF NOTE...IT ALSO APPEARS THAT A POTENTIAL LOW IN THE GULF MAY TRY
TO DEVELOP NEXT WEEKEND...WITHIN AN AREA OF HIGH BAROCLINICITY ALONG
THE FRONT IN THE WESTERN GULF OF MEXICO. HOWEVER...THIS IS BEYOND
THE CURRENT FORECAST PERIOD...AND IS DEPENDENT ON MANY VARIABLES.
WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS IN FUTURE MODEL RUNS.

I just heard about it on the local news weather that a low may develop after a cold front passes. It might become tropical in nature. If so, it would be Joyce. Should keep an eye on it.

one things for sure: Whether or not a low develops...it is going to be windy! This front will likely bring low-end gale force winds to offshore GOM locations and onshore, winds of 15-25mph with gusts to 30mph+ will be likely across most areas behind the front. We will probably see wind advisories issued for portions of the Gulf coast for Thurs. or Fri.
