Hope they are right- quite a bold statement

This is something that I thought was interesting:

Boy I sure hope they are right- wouldn't want some sneaky hurricane to come along in about 10 days and ruin the party. Odds look great that THAT won't happen. But still, the hurricane season is over is a bold statement to say when we still have several weeks to go.

well we may have a few weeks but with such powerful cold fronts that have move pretty far south so far, I'd say its about 90% over as far as US threats. In other words, one more big front will end it completely and I'll say 100%.

Not sure when that front will come through though. Latest models show that it may take about 2 more weeks. Maybe that is why the end of the season is typically Nov 30th since the BIG front usually comes through around that time.

Bob Breck out of WVUE TV in New Orleans has been saying the season has been over since mid October. I hope he is right. It is rather bold to make such a statement as we never know what Mother Nature has up her sleeve.....MGC

I don't think it's a bold...Actually, they tented on caution making the statement at this time, since "It's over" has really been in the cards since at least late September, IMO..
This "El Nino" event has been so strong that it even affected the weather in Saturn!! :D :D

True, but Kate only formed and intensified because no fronts had made it through, leaving warm waters behind in the Gulf of Mexico. Also, 1985 had 6 total U.S. landfalls in the year. 2006 has had none (maybe 1 with Ernesto), and several cold fronts.

I remember the Kate situation very well - three days before Thanksgiving, the supermarkets were crowded with people buying turkeys and bottled water!
