Alvin & Andrea to make history

When the first storm is named in the Atlantic and in the Pacific it will be the first time since tropical cyclones in both basins are given names that both names will make their appearance for the first time. In 2001, Adolph was retired for political reasons in the EPAC and replaced by Alvin. In the Atlantic, everyone remembers playful Allison that didn't want to go away from eastern Texas leaving Houston mostly under water and cutting a path of destruction as a non-tropical system from Texas to northern Florida to the northeast leaving behind 41 deaths and a billion dollars in damage. Allison was replaced by Andrea.

Therefore, it will be the first time since cyclones are named that the EPAC and the Atlantic will begin their season will a new face.

Hi Sandy, are you referring to the specific use of the names "Andrea" and "Alvin"? Because there have been several instances over the years where the Atlantic and East Pacific seasons started with completely new "A" names in both basins. As examples, in 1979, the Atlantic introduced "Ana" (previous uses in the Atlantic were spelled "Anna"), that same year the E.Pacific used "Andres", the first usage of that name. Then again in 1983, the Atlantic introduced "Alicia" and the East Pacific started with "Adolph", the first usage for each of those names. There are other examples as well, for prior years, so I was just a little confused by your comment.

"Andrea" is the female version of "Andrés."

"Andrés" is Spanish for "Andrew."

So you can say that the name can reminds you of a destructive cane!!!

By the way, my great-grandmother is named "Andrea" and she is 94 years old. "Persistence is the key!!!"
