Hurricane Donna -Vintage News Report

#1 Postby skywarn » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:55 pm

Below is a video link to a vintage news report on Hurricane Donna back in 1960 (Nearly 47 years ago). It's about 30 minutes long. It's a little something to watch during this quiet time we have right now.

That would be a horrible track for today's population.

South of Miami (stronger winds to the north)
SW Florida (again after Charley)
Orlando and then Daytona and Jax getting some action as well.....

here's a nice analysis.

Hi Skywarn/All - I'm the one who posted the "Donna" news clip on YouTube... glad everyone liked it! I'm going to try and post some more vintage news clips when I get a chance... like Skywarn said, it's entertaining to watch during the slow times! :D

very different how the news was covered then

Did not seem like there was continous live coverage in stark contrast to when Wilma decided to pay a local visit when there was more than a week of continuous coverage

If Hurricane Donna was to hit today, think about the loss of life and destruction it would bring to Florida.

[edited to remove error about landfall point]

I know the surge damage was really significant in Marathon and Duck Key area. The Marathon newspaper put out a book after the storm.
