FYI: Here is the link in the article above, with the new banners:
http://www.weather.gov/banners/nws.php
Also of interest is this:
In the proposed banner, there are no graphics allowed other than the NOAA seal and "NOAA" acronym. There are several options for placement of the NWS emblem (remember, the NWS emblem is not an official seal or logo) . Examples of possible placements include in the left menu or possibly in the standard NWS footer.

I personally find this a waste of my parents' money and the fact that it is taking away from the identities of the NHC/NWS (which is the intent apparently).

These types of things are quite the bit frustrating. Somewhat ironically, I have to be in attendance for something related to this "200th anniversary" at a NOAA scholarship recipient orientation thing next week in Washington. NOAA administator Scott Rayder will also be in attendance and speak to the scholarship recipients. I hope to and will try to get a few minutes to speak with him; I'd just like to see what he has to say about some of these issues regarding NOAA personally, without grilling him too much.
I hadn't realized the budget for the NHC was as low as someone before posted (somewhere over $6M I believe). For the 100 recipients of this scholarship alone, NOAA gives out roughly $2.5M total. That's well over a third of that budget for NHC, assuming that figure is correct. Too little money, and too many places it needs to go all at once...

Everyone please use the link above and add your comments before the deadline. Remember that these people need to be reminded in a respectful way to spend our money in a way that is productive to the weather world and not someones image. Please impress on them to increases the funding to NHC and NWS.
