Well, it finaly appears that the el Nino is losing its grip, with the Pacific ocean temperatures rising to near normal levels.
We had 3 major el Nino induced tornado outbreaks here in Central Florida during the winter.
The first, and least damaging, struck Oviedo in November. Then came the infamous Chtristmas Day storm that caused wide-spread destruction from Tampa, through Deland to Daytona....but no deaths.
By far, the most devasting tornado outbreak took place in the predawn hours of February 2, killing 22 people. At least 3 separate tornadoes touched down, from Lady Lake, FL ...through Deland....and culminating in New Smyrna Beach.
How does this relate to Huricane activity? If, as I surmise, that the conditions are tipping away from an elNino, then this is likely to be a very active season.
