That is not the official clock. I believe the official clock is still at T-9 mins and holding.

You must be my age..my daughters said "oh,dad..not another boring launch"..AMAZING! I still remember being glued to our "big" screen (19 inches) black and white TV set when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon...the first time I saw my dear departed dad cry..

I'm only 16 and never get tired of it. I'm going to miss the shuttle launches after 2010 though :( I hope I get to see one in person :) I mean, how could you NOT like that beautiful sight?

I bet he was hoping that the wind didn't change at the last minute :-) He probably lined that up hours in advance. It is a great shot!

It was so beautiful at the beach, so glad I went. :flag:

Only problem was everyone else in FL went too, and it took us 3 hours to get home when it usually would only take a little more than 1. But well worth it.
Took a bunch of pictures, wish you could get closer to launch pad but we were about as close as you could get without being on KSC property.

We watched the countdown on NASA TV, until we heard 5-4-3... then steppped out into the front yard, and watched the shuttle, riding its fireball, clear the treeline across the street. The launch sounds followed about three seconds later - a low roar first, building to a monstrous, crackling rumble as the spacecraft carrying its precious human cargo swiftly became a receding point of light, with other points drifting downwards from it.

A beautiful sight and awsome sound.

Go, NASA! :)

The clouds were all weird looking after launch. On our way home there were these wierd swirls not from the shuttle though, I don't think. Maybe a military plane circling the air space? I had already used all my film and couldn't take any more pics. :( One day I may give in to the digital camera. lol.
Looking foward to viewing the pics drezee.

I headed up to Cape Canaveral, Florida for the launch of Space Shuttle STS-117 Atlantis. Awesome launch weather.

Here are some photos and a video stream of the launch.
