Okay, this'll apply universally to all of the subforums.
Whenever we change threads, could we number the thread?
Example: Hurricane Cosme right now...
Current Title {Proposed Title}
---------------------------------------
Invest 96E {Invest 96E (eventual HURR COSME) thread 1}
TD 6 {TD 6 (eventual HURR COSME) thread 2}
TS Cosme {TS Cosme (eventual HURR COSME) thread 3}
Hurricane Cosme {Hurricane Cosme thread 4}
okay, let's say Cosme weakens back to TS, then reintensifies to HURR, then weakens back down to TS, then weakens back down to a TD.
TS Cosme {TS Cosme (prev. HURR Cosme) thread 5}
Hurricane Cosme {Hurricane Cosme thread 6}
TS Cosme {TS Cosme (prev. HURR Cosme) thread 7}
TD Cosme {TD Cosme (prev. HURR Cosme) thread 8}
Or something similar. This of course depends on if you want to switch threads when it oscillates from HURR to TS. Maybe we could create a new thread then merge it with the original HURR Cosme thread if it happened to be just oscillating?
Just an example. We could apply this format to all future storms so we can have reference. Of course you don't have to use the abbreviation HURR, I was just citing this as an example.
Second suggestion: in each thread, could we put the links to all previous threads of the same storm, in the first post?
e.g. thread 5 in my example above would have links to threads 1, 2, 3, & 4 of Cosme, in the first post.
thread 8 would have links to all threads 1-7 in the first post.
Of course, this does mean that there will be a LOT of work for mods when the tropics across the world gets really, really active, so let's get some opinions on this structure.
Suggestion for the foreign threads... what do you guys think

I'd like to see stages of relative weakness be groups together; 96E, TD6 and TS Cosme would all be in the same thread. When it increases to Hurricane, make a new thread, then just keep using that no matter what the intensity. Eventually it would get confusing with multiple threads. Imagine Ophelia: You'd have 13 threads of constant intensity changes before it finally became extratropical.

A storm like Kyle 2002 would also cause major problems in that respect. I like RattleMan's idea; all that needs to be done is change the title of the thread. Maybe reduce the threshold for making a new thread to 10 (or even 5) pages in the less-active forums.

I don't see the need for changing thread, unless it gets to 10+ pages. The best thing in my opinion would be to change the title accordingly as the system strengthens or weakens. This way it's less confusing for the readers and less work for the mods.
Basically I agree with both RattleMan and Coredesat!

The staff has decided to leave a thread for a system=Invest,TD,Tropical Storm and Typhoon,(Hurricane in EPAC).Of course when a thread reaches 25 pages it will be locked and a new one will open.

This is very bad imo. Why are the staff not taking ANY suggestions into account at all? We've provided examples about how this isn't a good way of doing it. I still think that one for INVEST/TD and another for TS/Hurricane (or even better, one thread per storm) is best.
Don't think you have to worry about that with this system.

The staff does take suggestions and discuss them at some length. This doesn't mean that we always agree. Ultimately the admins; Chad, David and myself make the decision. We can't make everyone happy but we do listen.

That is what is going to happen.

Thanks for the clarification. I apologise for insinuating otherwise.

Just to check: one thread per storm intensity, or do you mean the old method? Thanks.
