E PAC 3rd quietest ever

#1 Postby drezee » Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:06 am

SO FAR IN 2007...THERE HAVE BEEN A TOTAL OF 5 TROPICAL STORMS...1
HURRICANE...AND NO MAJOR HURRICANES. THESE TOTALS ARE WELL BELOW
THE CLIMATOLOGICAL AVERAGE OF 6.2 TROPICAL STORMS... 3.0 HURRICANES
AND 1.5 MAJOR HURRICANES BY THE END OF JULY. IN FACT...IN TERMS OF
ACCUMULATED CYCLONE ENERGY (ACE)...THIS IS THE THIRD QUIETEST
YEAR-TO-DATE (BEHIND 2005 AND 1966) SINCE THE GEOSTATIONARY
SATELLITE ERA BEGAN IN 1966.

I have read that quiet EPAC can mean an active Atlantic Season.. Lets see how that plays out this year. :D

Generally, a quiet EPAC means active ATL. The unusual exception would be 1977 where both basins were quiet due to a combination of El Nino and unusual monsoonal patterns.

Only 1966 and 2005 have been slower. We all know what happened in 2005 and 1966 was a fairly bad year also.
