The Flyboys have planes in Hawaii for Flossie right now. Also there are three planes in St. Croix. They will be tasked in time to intercept anything at 55W.

My guess is... It'll be a little while. It wouldn't exactly be worth the effort to fly to Africa to determine whether this is a T.D. yet or not. (Which it isn't - we have sufficient computer data to tell us enough info until Recon can have a closer look.)

Well, if they wanted to fly to Africa....they would run out of fuel.....so RECON won't be tasked until something is at 55W!

Didn't they have a WP-3D in Africa a year or two back flying African rainfall/SAL scientific missions?

Be nice to have a center fix, see if the centers are vertically stacked, central press. Help initialize the models better.

I haven't heard anything this year about any scientific missions in Africa.

It can't threaten land for the next 5 days so they don't need to fly into it. They will use sats, ships, and buoys to determine if it is a depression.

Last season (2006) NOAA did have a jet in the Verdes for upper air sampling research. From what I know that program is no longer in existence.
