Will we have Dean, Erin and Felix before the 20th. Seems the prognosticators were right. I'm afraid no sleep for about six more weeks (at least). I hope we all appreciated the time off recently.

Sounds like you need to calm down. Outerbanker was just stating the obvious. We will probably get 2 storms tomorrow and who knows what else after that. Interesting times ahead for tropical enthusiasts for sure....

Yes, we could have 5 named storms on or before August 15, though I know many would argue about Andrea and Barry. Still, the much advertised active season appears to be right on cue.

If you're not actually in danger at this point, why not sleep! Damn storm will still be there in the morning. Or not :wink:

I agree... I get the feeling that the season is just around the bend... and we're moving at 65mph. We'll see what happens, but when all is said and done... There will be stories.

Yeah, this stuff never makes me lose sleep. Stress at work makes me lose sleep, not tropical systems thousands of miles away.

If not sleeping can help, then go ahead and lose sleep. But worrying at night has never helped me prepare for a storm.
(And I have sleeping problems sometimes.)

I can sympathize, for years, if there was a storm creeping into the "alley" I would be hard pressed until it faded, turned or hit. I think it was from riding TS Dennis back in 1981 out in a houseboat way up in the Everglades NP, tends to make an impression on you. It took Charlie, Jeane, Frances, and Ivan to get me over that (I think I would have been psychotic had I not slept finally). There wasn't anything I could do anything about, I just slept very little until I knew it was ok, I would wake up after like 2 hours and have to see what was going on with the storm.

Today I am ok, but I will still find myself waking up just to check on a storms progress before going back to sleep.

I can totally relate to what you're saying.
I grew up in Southeast Louisiana (New Orleans) and have watched storms all my life. My dad was really in to tracking storms and staying on top of storm intensification/development. However, since Katrina I feel like I am holding my breath. I hated when hurricane season rolled around last year and this year I'm a nervous wreck. I hate this feeling and I hate living here, although I love the city. For us, now it's a waiting game, what will come first...my husband's retirement, which will allow us to leave this soup bowl, or the really big one that will take us out. It feels like being on the brink of insanity.

Sorry to go on and on, but I had to say something. I just hate living this way. I pray for everyone living along coastal areas. May you all stay safe and out of harm's way this hurricane season and always...

When a storm is withing 3 days, I will get up and check on it. Durring a storm, I don't sleep much just in case I have to fix something. Sometimes, all this information that we can get instantly works against us.

No, there are two storms comming, Dean and Erin. GFS runs show a third storm commming around Sept 1, and the 00Z run shows even a fourth one commmming, which may sap energy from the third one. Yes, the Atlantic is getting active.
