Congrates Bill Read. Well deserved in my humble opinion.

I must agree with you on this. Wxman57 said he was the logical candidate to take over the job when Proenza left and it looks llike they could be moving in that direction.

Yep, I've known Bill for a number of years. He's a good choice. I was kidding him about this a few months back at our local AMS meeting (at the height of the Proenza issue). Good for Bill! Congratulations, Bill!

Maybe OT, but a couple of years back 'The Weather Channel' replaced the local NWS forecast with their own forecast during the "Local on the 8s" segment, and it isn't hard to see that the local HGX NWS office does a much better job forecasting than TWC.
Almost always, especially during "Nowcast" type situations. I guess whoever in the cubicle in Atlanta is sometimes too busy to notice things like severe storms developing locally.
But even the general forecasts from NWS are better.

Excellent choice by NHC...and well deserved by Bill. Okay, maybe I am a bit of a homer, but it's always nice to see a local fella make the big time....!

In case there's any confusion when reading the topic - Bill Read was chosen for the Deputy's position (Festus Haggen, for example), not the Director's...
From what's been mentioned, there is no change in the outcome - Bill Proenza will not be returning to the NHC, though there still may be some legal matters to deal with...

A big gain for NHC and big loss for SE TX. Bill is a great person who has passion for the weather and his job and will do very well in any position at NHC. Bill has conducted excellent local conference calls during weather events here in SE TX and his ability to communicate to others the uncertainities in weather forecasting is one of his strongest points.
Congrats Bill you deserve the honor.
Gene will take over as MIC of the HGX office
