And then there were two- 97L rest in peace. 96 will be gone by end of day IMO, so we are left with pesky 94. We will watch and see.

It's possible the operational winner may not be the actual winner if 96L is found to have been a TD sooner (either becoming classified later or in the post-storm report)...

i'll take the DARK HORSE the low 700 miles ese of new fundland that is acquiring tropical characteristics

they could theorectically name this felix, and then name the storm south of nantucket Gabrielle

and then people could say see this is an "above normal tropical season"

or the NHC could not name either and if they didn't name chantal people would be saying "this season is slow"

the only thing IMO that determines wether a season is active or not is U.S THREATS and in that regard the season has been inactive (two sheared weak tropical storms) keep it from being very inactive
