That's true, though the Charley situation was unusual, since a strong August cold front is almost unheard of this far south...
It also depends on the type of cold front - one that sweeps through Florida (and even across Cuba) with strong northwest winds behind it, really does put an end to any tropical issues, for at least the time being, but, it's those fronts that stall to our south that can sometimes cause problems...
Still, once a strong front passes that provides low temps in the 40s and 50s, that really is usually a good indicator that the season is toast, since it's probably a part of a larger winter pattern, more than an individual event...
