The NHC will now issue Public Advisories for all East Pacific tropical and subtropical cyclones, whether or not they are within 48 hours of landfall.

CURRENTLY PUBLIC ADVISORIES FOR THE EASTERN PACIFIC HURRICANE
BASIN ARE ISSUED ONLY WHEN TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONES ARE
EXPECTED TO THREATEN LAND AREAS WITHIN 48 HOURS. EFFECTIVE MAY 15
2008...PUBLIC ADVISORIES WILL BE ISSUED FOR ALL EASTERN PACIFIC
TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONES...REGARDLESS OF PROXIMITY TO
LAND AREAS.

I wish Australia would issue their advices even when a cyclone is no threat to land. Ophelia is close to northwest Australia, and they have discontinued advices unless she makes a move back toward the coast.

Interesting. I always wondered why they never did this. It probably takes 2 minutes to do as it is just the same template.
