Some footage from Hurricane Frederic of 1979

#1 Postby stormy1970al » Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:48 pm

I was nine years old when Frederic hit the Alabama Gulf Coast. We lived in Fairhope at the time and I remember that night so well. I was playing around you tube and found this videos of Frederic. This hurricane is what started my fascination and interests in tropical systems. I hope it is okay that I posted this here.

Wow amazing footage and also a cool radar loop there. 1979 was a fairly slow season in terms of numbers but had two really dangerous hurricanes in Frederic and also just a little earlier in powerful hurricane David.

From what I saw in an AMS document, 1979 had 8 named storms (ending at Henri), and 21 depressions. Even though it's a high number, that number of depressions seems so...absurd...for an 8 named season.
