Does the last advisory not count toward the ACE. I always thought (unofficially) that a storm continued to be considered a tropical system until the first advisory that should be issued was not issued (in this case 5 pm EDT)

Upon analysis, however, this logic seems ridiculous.

In this situation, advisory #70 doesn't count because it wasn't a tropical cyclone. Bertha was extratropical.

This yields an ACE of 28.3675 and a HDP of 18.1575.

Bertha was of at least tropical depression status for 17 1/4 days.
...of at least tropical storm status for 17 days.
...of at least hurricane status for 7 1/2 days.
...of at least major hurricane status for 3/4 days.
