IIRC, there was a thread pre-season, some group I never heard of was making CSU/NOAA style predictions strictly based on sun spot activity.
I've read there probably is a link between sunspots and how much energy the Earth receives from the Sun, so I'd guess there is some link, but I suspect it is complicated.
