Re: Feedback to My IKE Tribute
I like the fact that you all were prepared. Very nice to see. You guys know the risks, you keep on top of it and are aware every step of the way and when the you know what hits the fan, you are ready. It does not mean that you will come out 100% without damage or other problems, but it is a major step towards getting the odds to swing in your favor.
Remember too that hurricane Carla was probably just as bad for this area in 1961. That hurricane also decimated Bolivar peninsula and other areas farther south and west. It seems that about once per generation there will be a significant hurricane to impact the upper Texas coast.

Nice pictures KatDaddy.
Nice pine tree there. I had the same situation in 2004 and I watched Charlie and Francis buffet my trees and uproot hundreds around town, finally when Jeanne's winds were picking up, I said, enough is enough and dropped 2 pines and a 2 elms. No time for permits, I just buzzed them down and cleaned up later. Looked bare but then at least our home was out of danger and there wasn't going to be a 15 foot hole somewhere to fix.

Hey there Mark how is it going? Yes we were all prepared for IKE. Rita was a wake-up call for the neighborhood and everyone worked well together to prepare. It was an exhausting 2 days before IKE and then a week afterwards cleaning up. On Friday morning of IKE I was lucky enough to be inside watching one of our local channels as they interviewed you. I was on the phone with my wife when I saw the interview. Lisa and our daughter were safe with family in Dallas at that point. I told her its not good when Mark comes to town on business.
All in all we faired very good considering the severe storm surge flooding along the coast. It could have been much more worse and I feel very fortunate. I bought Jim Edds DVD a few weeks ago. Its awesome and gave me a chance to see what was occurring when I was preparing for IKE. Cant wait to see yours. Here is a link the updated webpage. I cleaned up the background and text to make it look more user friendly.

Thanks Doc. I really thought the pine would snap during IKE. I cant imagine the pounding you got with 2004. Its better to have a hole in the ground than a tree through the house.
