Hurricanes and pressure

Hello, I was just wondering why a hurricane's intensity is judged by their pressure?

Thanks.

The lower the pressure, the greater the pressure gradient....this in turn is what causes wind. In general, the lower the pressure, the higher the resulting winds. A hurricane (or any storm) is an area of lower pressure...so the pressure is really the 'driver', not just a 'descriptive' measurement used to assess storm strength.
