where are the storms this year?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

where are the storms this year?

#1 Postby year_2005 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:20 am

i know there is usually not much going on in july but for a year that forecasters said could "rival 2005" we arent very active so far. in 2005, we were up to Gert right now and all 2010 has is Alex ,bonnie, and TD3. dont say "oh 2005 was just a freak year"(it was) but even more normal years like 2008 were up to the letter D (and 2008 produced E shortly after july) .

I think there are enough threads about this topic and you will fin LOTS of answers to your question, there have been LOTS of years with a slow start that have been hyperactive (2004, 1998, 1969), besides 2008 was far far away from normal, a normal season has 11 tropical storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. By the way, this season have not had a slow start we're above average right now on average the first tropical storm forms by July 11, with a second having formed by August 8.

In truth this year was never going to be 2005 like, the La Nina is far too strong to allow such a season, the La Nina will probably go strong by the Autumn...and such seaons never have above 14-15NS.
