While Charley was making landfall near Punta Gorda, the western Florida panhandle had dewpoints in the 50s and 60s, so unusually strong was that front. That front was also supposed to interact with Bonnie which landfalled near Tallahassee, holding it up so that Charley could hit Tampa Bay, but instead it plowed ahead and chewed up Bonnie.

Here are a few amazing videos of Charley I found on Youtube. Most of these have been added within just the last couple of years..

Absolutely insane Chase video from a couple of guys who drove to Punta Gorda for the landfall. Didn't really look like they knew what they were doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1yhtadsmLI

Weather Channel footage as the storm was coming ashore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ofm6IYW ... re=related

Western eyewall of Charley moving through Lake Beuna Vista, FL (near Disney): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn2j26ypGB0

Hurricane Charley still quite strong as it exited the state near Daytona Beach, FL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr5e_rpMP5o

Great videos. Makes me regret the loss of my own video from Charley. Had footage of trees falling.

I can remember that week clearly. We were getting August record lows, it was dry enough that I was going out to run at noon and not feeling like I was going to die afterwards, which just doesn't happen in August down here.

I remember evacuating to a friend's house. They were watching the local news and I was on the computer...S2K. We were the bulls eye. I told them it was turning and they did not believe me. They did not understand the difference between real time info and what the local channels were saying.
