Question about Georgia and Hurricanes

#1 Postby HurrikaneBryce » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:26 am

What was the last major hurricane to strike the Georgia coast and how come Georgia doesn't get impacted by tropical systems as much as Florida or the Carolinas?

Georgia was infamous for being affected by some monsters in the late 1800s. There was also a strong Cat 1 that hit the SC/GA border in 1940 and Hurricane David also made landfall in GA in 1979

Hurricanes usually don't hit GA because of the slope of the GA coast usually they'll stay west into FL or go North in SC or NC (especially NC). The last Major Hurricane was in 1893, but while it's rare it can definitely happen.
