Tropical Wave Exiting Africa

#1 Postby Mac » Fri Sep 03, 2010 7:49 am

Long time lurker and tropical storm enthusiast here...thanks for all the great info on the board!

I'm rather concerned about the tropical wave that is just exiting the west coast of Africa around 15N latitude.

I am noting that it appears to be associated with some circulation, even as it is exiting the coast. It is forecasted to drift west over the next few days, into what appears to be quite favorable conditions for development (relatively low wind shear, primarily south of the SAL, and into blistering hot SSTs). My concern here...if it maintains this low latitude for the next few days and remains in favorable conditions, this one could get into the Caribbean and become a GOM problem.

:?:

Edited to add: I'm not suggesting it will get into the GOM...rather asking if the steering conditions are conducive for that to occur...not very good at understanding steering currents yet.

Thoughts?

Mac,

Welcome to the forum. May I ask that you head over to "Talkin' Tropics" to discuss this feature? This is the Active Storms thread, and the wave isn't an invest or a named storm yet.

Thanks!
