What Are the Best Hurricane Radar Presentations?

#1 Postby hurricaneCW » Mon Sep 06, 2010 5:53 pm

I was curious to see which hurricanes had the most perfect radar presentation. Meaning a very well defined high with a complete eye wall and widespread convective banding on all sides extending well away from the eye.

One of the best I have seen was Ike. It was huge and for only being a Category 2/3, I was amazed at how well it did look.

STY Pongsana had a really sweet radar presentation on the Andersen AFB (Guam) 88D until the radar went down.

Actually, I think Charley probably had the prettiest radar loop for the US. If Cuba had better radar, Gustav probably also would have been gorgeous.

I remember watching Andrew on the weather channel as it made landfall. I was just far enough away to keep electricity for the whole night. From what I recall, it was a perfect tight circle. I even remember the little jump that took it south of Fort Lauderdale. This was before I took an interest in Hurricanes. It was an anxious night for me until about 3 AM. I had no idea at the time how truly scary it was for people further south.
