Here is a plot of the wind data that we collected during Earl last week along the NC Outer Banks. Special thanks to Mike Watkins for compiling the raw data in to this nice visual. I think he should work for Office Depot or some place...
We had several gusts in the 80s with a peak of 85 mph. Maximum 1 min avg looks to be 65.2 mph. The tower was sited very well in a wide open area, well secured with guy wires and the anemometer at 5 meters AGL.
Very neat! Gives quite a testimony to the power of Earl, when you were on the "weak side" of the storm, and it passed 70-80 miles to your east, that you still got sustained winds of 65 mph and a gust to 85 mph.
I wasn't even in the TS wind field and still saw massive waves and rip currents, beaches washed out, what a storm.
