Low Pressure WSW of Cape Verde (Is Invest 98L)

That's a really annoying upper level low. And I can't wait until it goes away.

Could that ULL develop a surface feature and become a system itself?

Maybe another thread should be started about this feature. This ULL has been a persistent feature out there for nearly a full week now. I have also watched this feature and it does seem to me that this area may be trying to work itself down to the surface. There has been a bit more convection developing today. Sometimes, these ULL can make it down to the surface over a period of time. It is worth keeping an eye on just in case this happens. The way this season has gone, nothing would surprise me.

There's no upper-level low near the Cape Verdes, it's near 20N/57W just east of the NE Caribbean. There is an upper-level high located just west of the Cape Verde Islands, however. You can see both on the streamline graphic below:

What we have here is a broad area of moisture associated with the ITCZ and a very broad surface low pressure area. There are currently no signs of increasing organization, though there could be some development potential in 3-5 days.

wxman57, I was responding to another poster who referenced the ULL NE of the Leewards on the this thread. I know there is no ULL out near the Cape Verde Islands. I created a new thread about the ULL NE of the Leeward Islands a few moments ago.

It is indeed the same system. The Euro takes this S of PR in about 7 days.
