The eye seems to be gone.

Could it be reforming elsewhere?

It appears to be reforming as we speak

Hurricanes this strong tend to fluctuate alittle and we sometimes see what's known as eyewall replacement cycles where the original eyewall collapses and forms a new one. That's probably what you're seeing in through here.

As a result Fabian is holding it's own early this morning, but could get even stronger later today and reach category 4 status by later this evening and tonight as a new clear eye forms on satellite later today.

I would havr thougt when the eye collapses the hurricane collapses but I am more used to thunderstorm development in any case. I seem to remember a hurricane once that had two eyes, can anyone tell me the name and year??

Eye is reappearing on last frame. And it is very tight

yes, does seem to have very good inflow into the storm too!
