This is going to be historic.. not because of its strength but for its path it took to get to Hawaii.. It is coming from due east, which is rare for hurricane that will affect hawaii does.

It looks like it is starting to hook back to the west.. but it is already too far north and will hit the big Island. I don't see too much trouble for the Islands.. cause it should slowly weaken on its way in... maybe maintain itself.

Too me this is the bigger news story in the tropics do to its threat to Hawaii.. there are just too many questions with Fabian right now.

You can see clearly the southerly shear over this system with the center on the southern end of that blob of convection. Still having said that, the big island still has to deal with tropical storm force winds with gusts over hurricane force possible, esepcailly on the southern tip at South Point.

Big waves is another story. Very dangerous rip currents along with large battering waves are expected. Also given the fact the convection is north of the center, the big island could still see 4-6 inches of rain with isolated amounts of nearly a foot, especially in higher terrain.

To see this coming in from the east is quite unusual for Hawaii standards.
