Nate reclassified as a hurricane in post-analysis by NHC

#1 Postby jinftl » Sat Nov 19, 2011 7:27 pm

Nate reclassified as a hurricane in post-analysis by NHC...bringing the season's total to 7 hurricanes.

From NHC Report on Hurricane Nate:

“Data received in post-analysis from Eco-1, a Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) oil rig located in the southeast quadrant of the cyclone in the maximum wind band (Fig. 5), indicated a 1-minute sustained wind of 72 kt at an elevation of 30 m. This occurred several hours after the time of the peak winds measured by the aircraft, also to the southeast of the center. An adjustment of the oil rig observation to the standard 10 m height, using the mean hurricane dropwindsonde profile, yields a peak surface wind estimate of 67 kt. These data and the earlier reconnaissance measurements support the estimate of Nate’s peak intensity of hurricane strength.”
