"Just wanted to let everyone know that I have talked to three friends in different parts of the island - they are reporting that the wind is starting to abate slightly and that the barometer is indeed rising. Hopefully the worst is over and they just have to weather the trailing portions of the storm although that still may be several hours."

so, yes, ideed, the worst is over
tomorrow the clean up and the repairs begin
