Very interesting read of his. Nice detailed discussions on the storms. I noticed he skipped the storms off Africa including Nadine. Any reason for that?

I strongly agree with Derek Ortt on both points. Maintaining warnings worked very well in Canada the last few years with their storms, and they seemed very well prepared.

Regarding the comparison to Igor, that is an excellent one with similar size and structure. Only difference is 400,000 people lived in Igor's path as opposed to 300 times as many in Sandy's path. Large storms in high latitudes often have extremely low pressures (Igor was around 950 or perhaps even lower after it left, maybe 945, when satellite estimates running up to landfall had it around 968) so without Recon or surface data there will be clear mismatches.
