What happened to the development of the GOM this week? Is it not going to happen?

I wouldn't rule it out just yet, but nothing appears very likely at this point.

There's currently a small area of disturbed weather in the Bay of Campeche, but there's too much shear right now for anything to happen...

The ETA brings a weak surface reflection of this toward the LA coast on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the GFS seems to also bring some reflection of this toward the northern Gulf Coast a little later in the week. None of the models I've looked at really seem to show any development, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't happen! Just not terribly likely at this point.
