That North Carolina will be hit by a hurricane as big as Fran in 1996??? Just curious as that was the very first hurricane that we had ever been through.What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.[/b]

I would keep your eyes on Isabel, but pointing out a target like that would be just guessing with nothing really backing it up.

I suppose so, but it always depends on the setup. I still do not believe that Isabel will pose an East Coast threat, but it's a long way out. In general, NC could get another hit; although, this year, the "set up" with oceanic ridges have basically made it impossible for a storm to reach NC. Currently, we seem to be on a 4 to 5 day interval between trough, which can be used fairly much in standard, which is why I don't believe right now that Isabel will be a problem.

To say it's likely is probably a stretch for NC...and that's a good thing--at least for me.

North Carolina has seen its share of hurricanes since Bertha in 96. I do wanna note however that North Carolina has not had a landfalling hurricane since Floyd in 99. Im keeping my fingers crossed that this year you will be spared as well.

That's exactly right. Category 4 Hazel in 1954 was as intense as Hugo...and a 12-17' storm surge swept the Carolina coast clean from Myrtle Beach to Cedar Island...every pier was destroyed.
